Normal Weight Gain During Pregnancy

Many moms, especially first time moms, worry about whether or not they are gaining the proper amount of weight during pregnancy. And while it is important to take in sufficient nutrients for your little one, if you are one of those people who does not gain weight easily, don't panic....I was always one of those people, you know those who wanted to gain weight, but just couldn't seem to do it. So when I learned I was pregnant with my first son, 18 years ago, I just assumed the weight would come, but it didn't. I was eating and doing everything I could to make sure the baby was getting the proper nutrients, but just couldn't seem to gain much weight. I was in college at the time and prior to my son being born I had mentioned to my professor that I might have to miss a couple classes, but I would make up the work. He said, "Well, we will discuss that when you get close to your due date." (He thought I was newly pregnant-until I announced to him that I was due in 3 weeks). Yes, I was still wearing my same jeans at 8 1/2 months pregnant, just couldn't get them zipped...All in all when my son was born I had gained a total of 11 lbs. and he weighed 5 lbs 12 1/4 oz. He was perfectly healthy and today he is 6'1" (far taller than me)...After the first child many women, even small women, see larger weight gains with future pregnancies. (As in my case) However, all my babies weighed roughly half the weight I gained during pregnancy....I gained the most weight with my fourth child. When my daughter was born she weighed 7 lbs. 8 ounces (my biggest baby) and I had gained a whopping 19 pounds...Moral of the story is if you are someone who does not gain weight easily don't panic, I'm sure your baby will be just fine. Just remember the importance of those prenatal vitamins and remember to eat well. (no medical advice intended only momming advice).
